A minority's skill set includes the fancy footwork required to knock down a (dominant culture) person's presumptions about you in the first few sentences so that they don't deprive you of opportunities and your livelihood. You need to orient them to the fact that you're human. Privileged folks don't need to learn such neat tricks (sadface).
